Dublin to choose utility investor type by Nov 30
Sep 16th
Ireland’s government will decide by the end of November what type of investor it would like to see buy a minority stake in the country’s electricity utility, ESB, a sale it authorised as part of its EU-IMF bailout package.
“The process that we have established (is) between now and the 30th of November to take whatever professional advice we need and to settle on the most compatible investor we can get in the company,” Energy Minister Pat Rabbitte told state broadcaster RTE.
Uncertainty over Dublin transport projects
Sep 2nd
Minister for Transport Leo Varadkar said the country is in receivership and it is by no means certain that any of the major transport projects for Dublin will be built in the next five years.
He said the Government is considering the different transport options for the capital – including Metro North, DART Underground, the Luas Connector, and the DART link to Dublin Airport.
He says each is being assessed on affordability grounds, on the transport and economic benefit it would have for the city, and how many jobs it would create and hopes that one of the projects can be funded.
Back to the future for Donegal and Dublin
Aug 26th
TIME IS TICKING down. All the tickets are sold. 20,000 Donegal supporters are ironing their yellow and green jerseys in anticipation of Sunday’s All-Ireland SFC semi-final at Croker.
In the capital, the bunting is up and expectations are at the seasonal high. On Sunday it’s winner takes all.
Dublin to maintain their momentum
Aug 19th
DUBLIN’S HURLING momentum at underage quickened last weekend with the minors reaching a first All-Ireland final in 28 years. This afternoon’s Bórd Gáis All-Ireland under-21 semi-final gives the county a great chance of reaching a second final this season.
Dublin’s relatively untroubled path through Leinster – Kilkenny having been beaten by Wexford – featured some impressive displays, especially the second half of the provincial final when they turned a tight contest with Wexford into a rout.
By all accounts Antrim have put a big effort into this year after last year’s destruction by eventual champions Tipperary.
Tipperary unchanged for Dublin showdown
Aug 12th
ALL-IRELAND CHAMPIONS Tipperary have named the same team that overwhelmed Waterford in the Munster final for Sunday’s All-Ireland semi-final against Dublin.
That means Brendan Maher, last season’s young hurler of the year, is again held in reserve despite recovering from a fractured ankle. More >
Dublin have wider spread of scorers
Aug 5th
It’s probably no exaggeration to say it’s now or never for this Dublin team, the chance to prove exactly what they’re made of. There can be no excuses in Croke Park this evening.
We know Dublin’s desire for All-Ireland success can’t be much greater than it is now, and their age profile is exactly right. So they need to start delivering, and by that I don’t just mean their work ethic and physical fitness, but mental fitness too, and if they really do have the quality to be considered contenders. If they beat Tyrone this evening I suspect they’ll have answered those questions in the process.
Dublin sees Aguero unveiling by City
Jul 29th
Manchester City have unveiled their new €40m man, Sergio Aguero, at the Aviva Stadium tonight.
However, City boss Roberto Mancini has said the player needs time to rest which means he won’t be playing in the Dublin Super Cup this weekend.
Mancini wouldn’t even confirm that Aguero will debut in tomorrow week’s Community Shield clash with Manchester United, saying only that he hoped he would be “available”.
Aguero said: “In five years I have only had one holiday so I’m used to it. One week of rest and a couple of days of training and I’ll be ready to play.”
Dublin must step up to mark in Keaney’s absence
Jul 23rd
CONAL KEANEY’S motorcycle accident yesterday morning has cast a cloud over Dublin’s attempts to reach an All-Ireland semi-final for the first time since 1948. Keaney sustained a fractured ankle and tore his cruciate knee ligament when hit by a van. As a result, Anthony Daly will not announce a team until tomorrow.
This is it for Dublin. The league success will lose its lustre if they cannot beat the Division Two champions. Many of their Leinster final excuses are valid. They were always going to struggle without Ryan O’Dwyer’s ball-winning ability at half forward while the rejigging of the defence after Tomás Brady’s knee injury failed to contain the Shefflin-Power-Larkin onslaught.
