Dublin motorists may face hike in clamping charge

The report from the council’s parking appeals officer says the €80 charge has not been increased since it was introduced in 1998. Appeals officer William Keilthy says this means that the charge has decreased by 25% in real terms, despite the fact that the cost of petrol has doubled during the period.
He states that based on the €7 million cost of the enforcement service, the clamp release fee should be a minimum of €130.
Dublin and Galway teams named

Peter Kelly and Paul Ryan have returned from injury to take their places in the Dublin team to face Galway in Sunday’s Allianz Hurling League Division 1A relegation play-off.
Kelly slots back in at full-back having recovered from the medial knee ligament damage he sustained when the sides last played each other back in February. This weekend’s Tullamore tie (throw-in 2.30pm) will see Ryan lining out at left corner forward, although he is not expected to last the full 70 minutes.

DUBLIN boss Pat Gilroy has recalled two of his All-Ireland-winning defensive lynchpins, Cian O’Sullivan and Kevin Nolan, for their first starts of the season against Donegal tomorrow night.
But another star man who has yet to feature this season — the currently injured Bernard Brogan — has admitted he’ll only be fit to play in this year’s Allianz Football League if the Dubs qualify for the knockout stages.
Dublin urges speedier bank crash probe

Dublin has called on its prosecuting authorities to speed up the criminal investigation into Ireland’s banking crash and pledged to hold a public inquiry to establish who was responsible.
The decision comes amid growing frustration in Dublin that a three-year criminal investigation into the country’s banking collapse has so far failed to produce charges against anyone. There has also not been any public inquiry into events that ultimately led to the country’s bailout by the European Union and International Monetary Fund in November 2010.
Police Catch Man Suspected In Dublin Break-Ins

Officials announced Friday that a man suspected in a rash of break-ins was captured. Police said that Robert Mason was in possession of, among other things, a vehicle that was reported stolen on Feb 28. When they apprehended him on Sunday.
Mason, 20, was suspected in a rash of break-ins in the Shannon Park and Hemingway Village neighborhoods. Police found Mason in possession of items stolen from Westerville and Columbus neighborhoods as well.
Dublin bin row continues

The Dublin bin row rages on as residents were left in the dark as to whether their bins will be collected next week as uncertainty grows over the privatised Greyhound service. Bins were collected yesterday from those homes who had not signed up to the service, despite being told that Thursday was the deadline for sign-ups.
During a heated debate in the Dail yesterday, Fianna Fail deputy leader Eamon O Cuiv warned that the city would become a “cesspool” of waste if the incident was not dealt with.

Upper Dublin Man Arrested for Stalking

An Upper Dublin man’s alleged stalking of a Springfield woman ended with a “creepy” and “disturbing” crime – the theft of the woman’s underwear during a break-in at her home, according to prosecutors.
The man with the alleged penchant for panties, Kornwell H. Chan, 37, of the 1900 block of Audubon Drive, was arraigned Thursday before District Court Judge Katherine McGill on charges of stalking, burglary, criminal trespass, theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property, harassment and criminal mischief in connection with alleged incidents that occurred between November 2011 and January.
