Spanish police hunt Dublin man’s killer

Police in Spain are understood to be looking for a British man, who lives locally, after a Dublin man was shot dead yesterday on the Costa del Sol.
John O’Neill’s family said he was an innocent man with no criminal record.
The 40-year-old father-of-two from Coolock was on holiday in Spain with his family when he was shot outside a bar in Benalmadena.
Dublin man’s body recovered from Lake Erie Monday

A 64-year-old Dublin resident who was reported missing on Lake Erie Saturday, July 24, was found dead Monday, July 26.
Gregory Shaw, 7685 Fishel Dr. S., Dublin, was initially reported missing at 1:43 p.m., the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office said in an information release.
The sheriff’s office said it received a 9-1-1 call from someone on a sailboat reporting Shaw in the water and that they had lost sight of him in Lake Erie about one mile north of the entrance to the Portage River.
Dublin keen for Daly to stay on

Dublin chairman Gerry Harrington is hoping that Anthony Daly stays on as manager of the county’s hurling team, despite exiting the Championship with a surprise loss to Antrim.
Daly is considering his future in the post, having a year left of his planned three year stint with the county.
Harrington told www.hoganstand.com: ‘I have spoken with Anthony and he has asked for some time to consider his position.
Dublin gunman left scene on bicycle

Gardaí investigating the murder of Stephen Byrne in Dublin yesterday evening say his killer arrived and left the scene on a bicycle.
The 32-year-old was shot a number of times in the head and body near his home in Sheriff Street at around 4.45pm. More >
Man charged over Dublin hammer attack

A 39-year-old man has appeared before Blanchardstown District Court charged with assaulting his wife at their home in Mulhuddart in Dublin last Monday.
Andrez Benko was charged with assaulting his wife, Joanna, and causing her harm at Ladyswell Road.
Joanna, 31, was beaten with a hammer while she slept in bed. The couple’s three-year-old son was downstairs at the time.
Dublin rape trial collapses

The trial of a Dublin man charged with the rape of a homeless woman nearly two years ago has collapsed at the Central Criminal Court.
The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, had pleaded not guilty to raping the then 19-year-old woman at a Dublin address on 13 October 2008.
Mr Justice Paul Carney directed the jury to return a verdict of not guilty as the evidence called by the prosecution supported an offence under the 1990 Criminal Law Rape Amendment Act, which deals with oral rape, anal rape and rape by the association of implements.

Protest at Iranian talk in Dublin

Ebrahim Rahimpour, the Iranian Ambassador to Ireland (June 16th), states that the Iranians who protested at a meeting addressed by the Iranian foreign minister in Dublin did so “with the purpose of gaining refugee status in Ireland”.
Mr Rahimpour could not have known the status or the motives of the protesters beyond the public statements which they made and therefore his statement is without substance.
Fresh faces in Dublin team

Dublin manager Pat Gilroy has named a new-look starting line-up for the Leinster SFC clash against Wexford on Sunday.
Five players have been handed Championship debuts for the Metropolitans’ Croke Park engagement.
